I wasn't sure if I should create a page titled "Learning" as I strongly believe everything that happens between birth and age 5 is learning, but this page will serve as a repository of links, resources and articles that I've found relevant for our learning activities at home.

A bit about what we do now:

While Claire does not attend a formal Pre-School, she participates in an independent story-time experience at our local library (which is a blissful hour of uninterrupted library time for me), and she takes a bunch of town sponsored classes together each season - usually something craft or physical activity related, think dance and seasonal crafts. We have family memberships at a number of wonderful museums and we attend nearly all of their education department offerings.

Above all, we read and read and read. We especially LOVE audiobooks around here. I have rediscovered a few of my childhood favorites on CD like Ramona Quimby, what fun!

Ecology is a topic close to my heart. We spend a lot of time 

observing and interacting with the world outside our door.

 

 

Learning games with materials already on hand

A nature table set up next to the front door is a perfect repository for all the goodies Claire collects. We keep a magnifying glass handy for close examination.

 I forfeited tape and foil rights at my house and allow Claire to build all types of wacky structures. There is a world beyond blocks and this kid loves to build!
 

We experiment - a lot! Last winter we tried growing food in our greenhouse for a season long science experiment. An educational, and delicious experience.
